At the beginning of next year Russia will considerably simplify the procedure of recognizing diplomas and academic degrees of foreign higher educational institutions. In January Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation is going to publish the list of foreign higher educational establishments, the graduates of which will be exempt from nostrification of their diplomas in Russia.
Until quite recently obtainment of two diplomas, a Russian and a foreign one, by the students was mostly widely-spread in the area of humanities. In 2012 the candidates for a Master Degree of the St. Petersburg National Research University for Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (NIU ITMO) that have received the Bachelor’s Degree in the area of information technologies will get the opportunity to defend the two diplomas – at their own higher educational institution as well as at the universities of the Netherlands, Finland or Sweden.
On Thursday the State Duma adopted, in the second and third reading, the federal law, enabling recognition of diplomas of major foreign universities in Russia without additional procedures.
In Russia the official government ranking of higher educational institutions will have appeared by the year of 2013. It will be worked out by the National Training Fund by order of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, both state and private institutions being evaluated.
