Southern Federal University (SFU) entered the final table of the TOP-800 world leading universities QS World University Ranking for the first time, according to data released on Tuesday by the world's leading analyst of higher education and employment, the British company QS (Quacquarelli Symonds).
Rector of the SFU, Marina Borovskaya believes that entering into this cluster of the ranking joins university to the group of world universities that show dynamic growth. "The presence of SFU in the QS rankings is a guaranteed proof of recognition by  international expert community, and for us it is also the conformity with high quality of education and the level of conducted research," – said Borovskaya to RIA Novosti.
She added that entering the ranking by the SFU is of natural since the academic institution was one of the first two federal universities established in Russia. The state provided funds to support the SFU. And dignified positioning of the university in world rankings has been a strategic priority.
"Over the past year, the SFU has paid great attention to improving international competitiveness,  publication activity of scientists was growing, we have been concentrating resources on breakthrough of research directions, and trying to strengthen communication with local and international experts," - said the rector.
In her opinion, further advancement in the ranking will be even more difficult because of the highly competitive educational milieu. However, the SFU still plans to go higher. In order to do this, financing of mega-projects in the breakthrough research areas is supposed in the university, along with evaluation of potential employees and strengthening links with employers and international scientific community.
